Closing out 2019

As we close out the year and prepare for 2020, here is a brief look back at some of MCCS events, programs and happenings that occurred aboard the air station from MCCS Cherry Point Programs and Services.

Much of the area was still recovering from Hurricane Florence. Many of MCCS’ programs and staff were impacted by the storm and were operating out of temporary locations. Building 232, home to most of Marine & Family Programs offices, was undergoing repairs for the majority of the year but finally reopened in September. Two Rivers Theater and Event Center was also heavily damaged. Repairs were completed December 5th, just in time for the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. The theater hosted several holiday events that included live performances, free movies and a Christmas concert presented by the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band.

The Daddy Daughter Dance occurred in March followed by Breakfast with the Bunny and the Easter Eggstravaganza in April. The Annual Mother’s Day Brunch and Mother Son Dance were held in May. The Back to School Breakfast included free school supplies and a delicious Breakfast Buffet. Finally Breakfast with Santa in December. Miller’s Landing is a great venue for weddings, receptions, conferences and other occasions including regular Welcome Aboard Briefs for Service Members and their families that are new to the area.

Semper Fit Events hosted the Annual St. Paddy Virtual run that ended on March 17. Next, the Sprint/Tri, a fast, flat race, was held in August followed by the spirited All Terrain Unit Competition in October. Behavioral Health hosted the 6th Annual  SAPR 5k, which included 1000 participants in April. The outdoors pools opened from Memorial Day through Labor Day and included Camp Wacky Splash, multiple opportunities for Lifeguard Certification, CPR classes, Swim Lessons, and a Summer full of outdoor fun.
